For the Revd Mr Spiers


1. When settled at home. Let him put a Pea Issue on each side of spine.


2. A table spoonfull of unbruised white mustard seed every morning if
this gives him one stool, enough, if not, take it both morning & Evening.


3. Once a week let him take the Infus. Tamarind. sufficient to move
3 or 4 times, but not oftener.


4. Twice a day take two tablespoonfulls of the Infusion ordered
below - One dose in the forenoon at least an hour before dinner,
the other between 7 & 8 p.m.


5. Every morning his whole body espicially his left side to be rubbed
with the flesh brush
long continued but gentle


6. In tolerable weather Exercise and fresh air. -- Walking he
may use within doors, but if abroad great care must be taken to
avoid carrying it the length of heat or fatigue -- Till stronger
a Carriage & a single horse chair if he can drive it himself
the best -- When his strength is tolerably established a Horse.


7. Avoid cold in every way - Wear woollen everywhere next the
skin


8. Reading bad for his Eyes -- Any serious study also improper


9. In Diet he may take ordinary fare, but for some time & perhaps
all his life he must be sparing of Animal food - A little bid of light
meat at dinner & fill up with broth pudding & vegetables. --
Of Fish very sparingly & only of the lighter kinds - No meat at
supper. Cheese very sparingly -- No Indian Tea Coffee but
Cocoa Balm or Rosemary Tea -- for tea in the afternoon Valerian
ordinary drink plain water -- or if costive good Small Beer --
Every day at dinner he may take two or three glasses of wine but never more
& if so he may take any kind he likes best -- or two or three glasses of punch
or half a muchkin of Port ----

Take an ounce of Wild Valerian root, 2 drachms each of Virginia Snakeroot and freshly grated Radish, half an ounce of whole Mustard seed, 1½ pints of Spanish White Wine, 8 ounces of simple Cinnamon Water, and 2 ounces of Composite Radish Water. Steep for 24 hours and strain without pressing. Label: Cephalic Infusion 2 spoonfuls to be given twice.
