Lord Aberdeen Concerning his noble Consort the Countess.

Her complaints maybe troublesome but of no great consequence.
I am clear that they are owing to that irregularity mentioned by your
Lordship. She is not yet at that time of life when these naturally
cease. but this is different in different constitutions, - and
I suspect the irregularity you mention to be a Prelude to the en¬
tire ceasing of them
. This however may not happen for a
year or two, & in the mean time unless we can guard against
it the irregularity will subject her to some of her present
complaints. To obviate these

Lay aside altogether the Harrowgate water, taking care of
costiveness ---- which when it comes on must be removed by
a dose of

Take a dram of each aloe and Asafoetida, a scruple of polychrest salts, and a sufficient amount of muscilage of Gum Arabic to form a dough which you then divide into pills of 5 grammes each. Label it: Laxative aperient Pills. Take 1, 2 or 3 as a dose at bedtime.

The only other medicine is

Take 5 grammes of powdered Columbo root, 3 grammes of prepared steel, 3 grammes of powdered cinnamon. Mix all the powders and [take?] in an emergency. Make 28. Label it: Aperient powders, are to be taken in a little currant jelly or Panada twice a day & so continue for a fortnight. They are to be taken in the morning before breakfast & about an hour or 2 before dinner. but if the morning does be very disagreable, it may be delayed till 7. or 8 p.m.

Her diet should be light, not too low. A bit of any plain
meat at dinner but few greins roots or fruits. Still avoid
fish. Should avoid all Red wine --- & sherry is the best
of white wines, & of this 2 or 3 glasses both at dinner and
supper will be very proper. For ordinary drink, wine &
water or small beer as she like best.

A good deal of exercise, but guard against bad wather, cold
in the feet & legs especially &cc.

Was the Evacuation at the end of September & 9bre. in greater or
smaller quantity than usual.
