Sir,

My Father Mr. Dods who consulted you
some weeks ago at Edinburgh for a disorder
of
the breast, which you called a nervous asthma;
Has been seized some days ago with a kind
of stupefaction
or want of recollection, during
which, after he begins to speak, in the middle
of the sentence, he will stop short, his memory
wholly forsaking him
–––– He sometimes is a
little better, & then he is sensible of the situation
he has been ↑in↑, but says only, that his Ideas forsake
him in the middle of his speech, he cannot tell how.
He walks about, seems to have at present no other
complaint, the nervous Asthma having troubled
him very little since he was seized in this manner.
He was attacked in the same manner, as he was
coming for your advise, at Dunbar, but complan↑t↑
shortly disapear'd –––– You may recollect that he
was a stout man, & accustom'd to be blooded, for
his former Complaint which he thought reliev'd
him –––– He is about 55 years old ––––
P.T.O.

[Page 2]

He has had half a Dozen leeches applyed to
his Temples, a Blister to his shoulders, with
an opening medicine, his feet put into warm
water, his head is shaved to day & cupping
Glasses to be applyed to
his Temples, if approved
of by Dr. Cullen ––––

Humble Servant
