Sir

your friend & Patient Mr Frank Somervell
has taken the Guaiac Mixture agreeable to your
Directions, without any other medicine ever since
you was here excepting one night he took none,
merely to ascertain if it was owing to the medi¬
cine that he was a good deal affected with grip¬
ing pain in his
bowels, which attacked him
the 2d or 3d day after the use of it, but as he did
not find any alteration the following day, he is
going on with it, & his griping has abated these
2 last days; but his nights rest has been very
bad
for these 3 nights last past; I advised him to
take an Opiate last night, but he avoided it as
he felt drowsie at bedtime, & had about 3 hours
rest; He has had about 2 Stools in the 24 hours

[Page 2]

generally preceded by a little griping -- he has little
or no appetite
- he has been only once out of be
since you saw him, & he thinks that was the
cause of a pain he felt in his head & neck the
succeeding day -- he has had no Startings or
Spasms, -- he was once sensible of a moisture on
his Skin -------- Before you saw him he had
taken a house for Sea bathing in the summer,
he will be glad of your Opinion on this head.

I think this is all I have to tell you respecting him

I am Sir your most Obedient Servant
