For Mr D––––d.

Tho the mercurial courses formerly employed should
have cleared this gentleman of all venereal taint yet that
is ↑not↑ to be absolutely depended upon and tho the present
sores
are not very clearly of the common venereal kind
yet both their place and appearance give strong suspicions
and will require attention. However to save all unnecessary
trouble let a trial be made to heal some of the sores as par¬
ticularly that on the thigh and one or two of the driest
upon the penis by the application of dry precipitate, avoiding
any at the same time any application of saturnine medicines
to the same sores. But to ↑the↑ other sores upon the penis which
discharge some moisture let them be washed two or three
times with ↑the↑ solution prescribed below. If this solution
smarts to the sores a good deal let it be made weaker but if it
does not smart at all it should be made a little stronger.
Let these measures be pursued for eight or ten days and

then let me know exactly & fully their effects and then
I shall certainly advise farther as well as I can. In the
meantime I do not choose to advise any informal medi¬
cine and with respect to diet I have only to say that
in eating it should be moderate and in drinking very
strictly temperate
