Case of Miss N. Leslie of Kininvie

Miss Nelly Leslie aged 22 years of a Habit somewhat relaxed, had
been seized in the beginning of Spring, with a violent Toothach at¬
tended with such inflammation of the cheek affected, as prevented the jaws
from opening and having the Tooth extracted. - The common Remedies
were tried with little effect, - and Opiates were given occasionally to procure
sleep, of which she was deprived not only by the Toothach, but by [grievous?]
Pain in the Jaw and Temple. - The swelling and straitening of
the Jaws
at length abaiting the Tooth was drawn, since that
time the Pains above mentioned are much relieved; but the long
continuance of Pain and Night watching seem to have brought on
a general Debility of the whole system, [For?]

Her Appetite and Digestion are exceedingly weak - her strength
Flesh and
spirits greatly reduced - skin generaly cold and [in¬?]
perspirable - her Pulse from 70 to 74 and [small?] she often complains
of Pain and swelling of her stomach especially in the afternoon, she
is very subject to Headach, which with the pain of her stomach [usualy?]
increase toward night and prevent her from sleeping 'till 4 o'clock in
the morning
. - her Belly is generaly costive but menses regular. -
In April and May she was distressed with morning sweats but they
are how gone off.

She drank Goat milk in the season - has taken the Bark in
red Porto Wine - Elixir of Vitriol with some other Stomachics - and rides
out on Horseback daily - but all without success hitherto.
