A. B, A young Man who ha gotten the Venereal Disease
in February last was soon cured of the Gonorrhaea by Pill. Mercur.
& an Electuary which I supposed was the Bark --- About 3 months
after he got the Infection his tongue Mouth & Throat were affected

A young Physician in my Neighbourhood ordered him fumigations
with
Corrosive sublimate, by which this affection was soon removed -

But soon after his Eyes were seized with intolerable pain which
he imagines was occasioned by the fumes of the Corosive sublimate,
but the Physician suppose this was owing to a great Quantity
of Mercur. still remaining in the System, wherefore the
patient was sweated Purged & took sulphur till he was redu¬
ced so low as not to be able to stand. The Inflammation & pain
of his
Eyes still increasing. Such was the Case when I was
called to see the Patient; I had him on a mild vegitable
diet, applied Leeches to his Temples & cheeks near his
eyes, & gave him small doses of Sal. Cathart. Amar. as
occasion required. By this he got some relief, but the
pain in his Eyes still greatly tormented him, had no rest
Appetite very bad. I ventured to give him some bark
and an opiate at night, & continued applying the Leeches
frequently. He has now gained considerable strength & appetite
& rests well; but the disease is not removed; I omitted the
bark & opiate; applied a blister between his shoulders &
kept it running with Ung. Epispast. Mit. I gave a
Collirium of weak Solution of Sachar. Saturn. in Aq. Rosar. The
Blister & Collirium had little effect. I then ordered blisters
behind the Eears with little advantage, I then ordered Ung.t Merc.
to be put into each Eye; as I have been little accustomed to
treat Venereal Patients, I dare not venture farther without
some assistance from the more experienced ---
