Dear Sir

My son William about 28 years of age, of a
healthy constitution, but had always delicate weak nerves
from 6 or 7 years old, when he was long ill & recovered of
a nervous fever

Eight days ago he was suddenly seized about 8 o'clock
at night with a severe headach & almost total loss of
Appetite
-- Next day, being Saturday, he was heavy and
dull, and the headach continued with Squeamishness
of his stomach. At night he took a Vomit of Ipecac.
which operated very well, & after he went to bed fell
into a profuse Sweat, whereby he was greatly relieved
both of the headach & sickness, but still a feverishness
continued of a very mild appearance -- Next night the
sweating return'd & he continued to be pretty easy till
yesterday, when he became very delirious, and still
continues so -- On Thursday when the fever remitted,
he got a few doses of Peruvian bark in substance, he had
a stool every day till yesterday, but he got an injection
at night which operated once very well, and a blister
was applied twixt his shoulders, it rose well, & as he
continues still very delirious I gave him a dose of
camphorated Emulsion, he is a little easier at present
but the Delirium continuing, and this morning

[Page 2]

he has sometimes a Hiccup owing to Spasm, A warm
cloth applied to his breast immediately takes off that
symptom, his pulse has been pretty good all this while
and his appetite also tolerably good ever since he got
the vomit, His breathing quick and laborious, especially
when he sleeps

I cannot expect to see you here in this stormy season
but I beg your best advice & opinion in writing, and
am with great esteem

Dear Sir---
Your most obedient humble servant
