Kirkcaldy 30 September 1777
Sir

I had the honour of receiving your Letter of the 25th
Current in Course. The Remedies I have employ¬
ed for Miss Aytoun since my last have been bleed¬
ing
& the use of the common Injection.

On the 26 I found her Pulse fuller & her strength
more than it had been for some days before;
from these considerations & from a Respect to
your opinion I ventured to take blood from her
Arm to the extent of eight ounces - from the
time of the bleeding till the 29 Miss Aytoun
was free from violent pain & slept a little
in the night.

About four OClock yesterday afternoon
the Looseness began to recurr & at bed time I

[Page 2]

ordered an Anodyne of Sixty drops - notwithstand¬
ing the use of which she slept none & was put
out of bed ten times in the night - The Laudanum
I observe always brings on Convulsive startings
& in this Case has never procured rest: nor
do I think it had any effect in stoping the
Looseness last time - Her other Symptoms are
much as formerly - the vomiting has not
appeared for some time - she has no Cough.

The Potio Cretacea is the only remedy I
shall employ till you are pleased to give
further orders - The Pulse is so variable that
I h say nothing about it I am very Respect¬
fully

Sir
Your much obliged & obedient
Servant
Archd. Murray
