For Mr Y


All his ailments owing to a foulness not fully
discharged by the extremities, but, I hope &.c


Go to the country where he may get fresh air
& exercise -


Much in the fresh air & c. Exercise
Walking moderate, but - the most beneficial
exercise is on horseback – ride three or 4 hour
every forenoon, if not this a single horsechaise


Every morning before rising a flesh brush –
gentle but long.
feet & legs warm & dry –


Diet of a midling kind neither very high nor
very low – It is hoped that air & exercise will
recover his appetite & in that case, he should
take a bit of solid meat every day at dinner, but
pudding & vegetables. Plain cooking avoiding
all heavy ↑or rich↑ saces – fish sometimes but seldom
& sparingly. Supper light if any, milk meat of
some kind – At Breakfast no Indian Tea or Coffee
Cocoa tea best, dry toast & butter but
no sweets

Ordinary drink plain water. No malt liquor
at dinner half a pint of Port or a Gill
of spirits in Punch without souring. If at night
he chuses to take a little strong drink, it should
be a Punch of the same kind


This Regimen may do a great deal but
a medicine may assist – Pills keep his belly
regular [at night?] but if purge him diminished

Take 2 drachms of Gum Guaiacum, half a drachm of White Sugar, and a drachm of Tartar Crystals. Rub together well, then add 2 drachms of Gentian Extract and enough Gum Arabic paste to make a mass to be divided into pills of 5 grains each. Label: Aperient Pills three or 4 [h. s.?]
