Sir

Miss Forster, the young Lady Who comes
to consult You, has for some years been in a
bad state of health, & her complaints have been
mostly of the nervous & stomach kind, of which
she will tell you more particularly. She once
had a fit of the Gout, during the continuance
of which she was reliev'd of these complaints:
She has been also for most of that time troubled
with lax bowels & griping stools, & the return of
her Menses very irregular, the quantity very little,
& the returns too seldom
:- this was Her account of
her past & present state, to Me about 14 days agoe,
when she put Herself under my care; I found also
that she was short breathed upon walking, with
palpitations, & a tension & fulness of the stomach
& Abdomen, which increased towards Night, & a
frequent coldness of the extremities & little persp¬
ration
: I advised Her to wear flannell, & on
account of the laxity of her stomach & Bowels to
refrain from Vegetables, & flattered Myself that,
if by {illeg} the Solids & warming & invigor¬
ating the fluids, the quantity of the Catamenia
cou'd be increas'd, & the returns regular, she
would be relieved - for that purpose she took the
following Pills [bis die horis medie?].

Take eight [grains?] of prepared red chalybeate, five grains of extract of soft Peruvian Bark, one drop of cinnamon oil and a sufficient quantity of simple syrup in order to make medium pills for one dose.

- after taking these about a week, & finding a
circumscrib'd hard tumor about the epigastric
region
, painfull when press'd, I chang'd Her pills
for the following -

Take half an ounce of [Pil. gum mar.?] and two drachms of prepared red chalybeate and let medium pills be made- Take four twice a day -

the hard
Tumour is not now to be felt, but a general &
painfull tension still continues, & all these com¬
plaints have been lately aggravated by distress &
[confinement?], having lost Her Father after six or
7 weeks ilness.- Could repelling the itch produce
Her ilness ? She got it by infection years ago-
& did not remain long well after the cure of it.

You will not I hope think this long detail
unnecessary tho' you see the Patient, as it is
intended as a help to her Memory, & to shew
how much I am Sir

Your most obedient
humble servant
Arthur Gair
