Sir.

Upon the return of
the winter Mrs. Beath was seized
anew with the stitch in the right
side
, which yielded to a blister.
She adheres religiously to the milk
& vegetable diet, & altho the win¬
ter has been remarkably favo¬
rable, she has however got ad¬
ditional complaints, which she
wishes you to be informed of.
The cough & defluxion are much
the same, but she has got at times
a difficulty of breathing which she

[Page 2]

had not last spring. She often com¬
plains of a pain in her stomach,
weakness in her limbs & pains
in the knees, & a pain in the
back, almost opposite to the right
kidney
, she has no symp¬
toms which give any ground
to suspect its being affected: This
does not affect the breathing

as the stitch did. She has some
times feverish fits & sweats in
the mornings, but Her pulse
is for the most part at 80.

She continued to take airings
in good weather, till she found
they overfatigued; So that now

[Page 3]

she never attempts going abroad.
She takes women's milk twice a
day
, & the body is keept regular
by injections. I am sometimes
obliged to have recourse to opi¬
ates
. Upon the whole tho she
coughs more than she did in the
summer
& has got the above
additional complaints, I
think her better than we had
reason to expect. It will be agre¬
able to her that you pay some
attention to these new ailments.
Our Patient Mr. Ross died last
week, was worn to a shadow,
was abroad the day of his death,
& the swelling of his leggs was entirely
